Helen Caird
b. 1972
In her most recent work, Helen Caird has investigated the sense of abandonment within familiar urban and suburban surroundings, and as her source of exploration she has used several architectual structures located at Blackrock and Dunlaoighre, South County Dublin. Two of the structures, a bandstand and pumphouse, are to be found in Blackrock Park, and two, both disused public baths, are located at Blackrock and Dunlaoighre.
Her work explores the very nature of desertion and neglect and how abandoned structures and human response to them may take on a new function within a particular place.
