Press Release
The Third Year Paint students of Cluain Mhuire Campus, GMIT, have come together to organise an end-of-year exhibition titled Surface to showcase their individual talents. The title of the show suggests a first step into the professional art world, and also the array of media in which they choose to work.
The students who are exhibiting are Kate Molloy, Roisín O’Sullivan, Aisling Drennan, Arlene Roan, Siubhán Leannán, Megan Ward, Marie Dollard, Winnie Pun, Elmarie Collins, Debbie Moore, Carmel McGrath, Nicole Bartley, Anne Gallagher, Christina Hopp and Helen Caird.
There will be an official launch with wine reception at No. 8, Lombard St.(beside Ryans Homestores), Galway City on Friday the 7th of May at 6pm.
Dates: 7th May - 15th May 2010
Opening times: 12pm - 6pm on Monday-Wednesday,Saturday (8th); 12pm - 8pm on Thursday and Friday; 10am - 1pm on Saturday (15th).
The students worked with two curators; from Galway Arts Centre, Visual Arts Officer Maeve Mulrennan and from 126 artist led Gallery, Victoria Smith. Both will be guest speakers at the launch. This exhibition will convey to the viewer the wide range and diversity of their work and this is an excellent opportunity for these emerging artists to demonstrate to the wider public their unique aptitude. The fact that the students will be exhibiting outside of the college has afforded them a great chance to engage with the community as well as the arts audience of Galway for the first time. Over the past number of years, Cluain Mhuire has produced some very fine artists who have gone on to lead successful careers not only in Ireland but also internationally, and will continue to do so.
The group have been working with the curators since January of this year on the exhibition. The exhibition is supported by the Galway Business School, who generously donated use of their building on Lombard Street for the exhibition. The exhibition is also generously supported by Bar 8, New Docks Galway, and Traditional Cheese Company, no. 29 Ballybane Industrial Estate, Tuam Road, Galway.
